Ancient India & Astronomy

The Indian contributions to astronomy are vast and varied. Ancient Indian astronomers developed a number of sophisticated techniques for observing and recording the movements of celestial bodies. They developed a system of astronomy that was used to predict eclipses, the positions of stars and planets, and the times of religious festivals.

The most famous of these ancient astronomers was Aryabhata, who lived in the 5th century CE. He developed a model of the solar system that was based on the heliocentric model of the Greek astronomer, Ptolemy. He also developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars.

In the 11th century, the astronomer Bhaskara II developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars. He also developed a number of astronomical instruments, such as the astrolabe and the quadrant.

In the 16th century, the astronomer Jai Singh II developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars. He also developed a number of astronomical instruments, such as the sextant and the armillary sphere.

In the 19th century, the astronomer Madhava of Sangamagrama developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars. He also developed a number of astronomical instruments, such as the zenith tube and the equatorial ring.

In the 20th century, the astronomer Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars. He also developed a number of astronomical instruments, such as the spectroheliograph and the coronagraph.

In the 21st century, the astronomer Jayant Narlikar developed a number of mathematical techniques for calculating the positions of the planets and stars. He also developed a number of astronomical instruments, such as the cosmic ray detector and the gamma ray telescope.
