Dishit Salat Vadodara files for Guiness World Records for Mahendi at Kalanagari
Vadodara lad attempts to break world mehndi record!
The existing world record is held by an Ahmedabad girl Dipti Desai, who in 2011 had set a record of applying mehndi on 140 hands (70 people) in 24 hours 45 minutes.
With a dream to break this record, Salat started from Saturday morning and is attempting to set a record of applying mehndi on the hands of 200 to 300 women in 28 hours at a stretch.
As Salat (24) started his marathon bid for the record at Kalyan Prasad Hall near Mandvi from 8am onwards, there was a curious queue of women wanting to get their hands decorated with the herbal mehndi, which came free during the ongoing Gauri Vrat.
"Although the rule book allows me to have a breather of five minutes every hour, I am not taking any break. Also, I am avoiding heavy lunch and instead opting for juices and fruits," said Salat, a sculpture graduate from Vallabh Vidyanagar-based Santram Ipcowala Fine Arts College, whose attempt is being supported by Foram Foundation.
To apply mehndi on so many hands in Indo-Arabic style, Salat has prepared the paste using three kilogram mehndi powder, one litre nilgiri oil, 200 gram clove oil, two litre water and 500 gram lemon juice.
Earlier this year, a 22-year-old girl from Nagpur had also attempted to break the record of Ahmedabad- based girl. "But she missed the record as she couldn't send a live video to support her claim. We have been asked to provide a live video of 28 hours as a claim to the team of Guinness World Records," said Salat, who otherwise as a professional mehndi artist charges Rs 100 for applying mehndi on both the hands to his clients.
"Today, there is a waiting of four hours which I have seen never before," he said.
